RVA Districts

Richmond city and its districts always had its history to attract crowds from all over the world; from its many shops in Carytown in the Museum District to the beautiful river front and nightlife of downtown. Many festivals stop by RVA every year with something new and exciting to look forward to every time they come to the city. History is also abundant here with stories of the good and bad of the city with major turning points that made this wonderful river city what it is today. Pictures are worth more than a thousand words and these pictures will give you a glimpse the city I call home.

The Fan District

The “Fan” district is a series of streets that extends to the western part of richmond. Its home of VCU college one of the largest colleges in virginia. The fan has a variety cafes,bars and locally owned restaurants to choose from. Many homes and architecture is well intact from the late 19th and early 20th century.

The Museum District

The museum district is one of my favorite areas to visit, I recommend visiting museum of fine arts. The building and art is very unique with very interesting exhibits from all over the world. Stick around for the relaxing jazz music on thursdays. It’s one of many museums on the block, it’s also walks away from the shops and dining of Carytown.

The Downtown District

Downtown richmond gives you the rich history and many style of living all in one area. Shockoe bottom is a great place to explore the dine in and bars with a southern flare. You can head over to browns island to many festivals with wonderful river views and memorial bridge that connects to the city’s flood wall.

The Churchill Eastside District

Okay we are heading east to the churchill area. The hill of the east end is breathtaking and if you made it to the top, you will see the best view of the city and beyond. It has to two huge parks with more historic homes for the 20th century. Here you also see tobacco row buildings that converted to apartments.

The Northside District

Northside is a very diverse neighborhood suburb with many styles of architecture from which include bungalows, romanesque revival, and queen anne houses. A drive away from the richmond international raceway and baseball stadium. Its laid back and cruise type area.

The Manchester Southside District

Originally as manastoh or dogtown, the manchester area is just south of the james river and a bridge away from richmond downtown. old and historic red brick buildings that converted to apartments gives a living tale of what the building was. You will enjoy the path of the historic trails and path of the floodwall near the james. Great self owned shops and diners to choose from (try croakers Spot)
